Travertine Polishing in Houston by Texas Floor Restoration

Travertine Polishing Services :            Orange County & Newport Coast

Do you have or want polished travertine? Whatever your needs are Pacific Floor Restoration has the training and experience you need to polish your travertine. At Orange County Floors we use state-of-the-art Diamond pads and specially formulated compounds. With these two components we can achieve a highly polished surface with a great deal of clarity.

Travertine polishing processes can be very controversial because there’s a lot of different ways to travertine marble and every contractor uses a different technique.  What technique is the best, and who can I trust? I’m going to address a few of the different ways you can polish a travertine because there is so many that I cannot address them all.

The most popular one is acid polishing with steel wool most commonly known as crystallization or vitrification. This process is not recommended by Pacific Floor Restoration for the reasons in the video on the homepage.

Another populur travertine polishing process is diamond polishing. Diamond polishing which is basically running a very fine grit diamond with water until you receive the desired polish. this alone is not recommended by Orange County Floor Restoration because we can achieve a much better result with our technology.

Another popular system for polishing travertine is with polishing powders, pastes, or diamond pads. These past and powder are very complex with alot of different components but to simplify it, these powders are very abrasive and acidic and when used right they can give good results. This alone is not recommended by Pacific Floor Restoration because we feel that we can achieve a better result with our technology.

At Pacific Floor Restoration we are trained to be able to polish with all the above techniques, and technologies. Now with that said we recommend using a combination of diamond polishing, and powder polishing because we have developed a powder that works with diamond polishing. We don’t feel that one polish gives all the benifits that we can give.

  How to Polish Travertine

To polish travertine you must start off with a Clean floor. The next step would be to evaluate the travertine to see how badly the floor is scratched etched or how healthy the floor is so we can determine how deep you must go with your diamonds typically most floors will start off with a #400 diamond and then proceed with the next steps #600-#800-#1800-#3000-#6000 diamonds (Every system is different this is just a generic example). After running all your diamonds you can start with your polish if more shine is desired. After cleaning, grinding, and polishing is done then you will need to seal the floor with a penetrating sealer to complete the job.

Polished Travertine pros & cons

Pros and cons to having your travertine polished. Lets start with the pros first. With a polished travertine we can use more hardener in our water solution when grinding the floor with our diamonds, which all travertine floors could use because of how soft the stone is. So basically because we are polishing your stone we can make the surface harder, and make it more scratch resistant. Polishing will also bring out the natural colors in the tile and act as an enhancer.

There are a few cons as well. Because your floor has such high shine everything is noticeable like holes, dirt, and worn areas. The floor will be harder so it wont scratch as easily, but you will notice it more.

This is a personal preference and the amount of shine can also be determined by you and your Pacific Floors Representative. Give Texas Floor Restoration a call to polish your floor.

Marble Honing – Orange County CA

Honing is more commonly performed polish on a Travertine floor. Honing is actually a type of polish, a lower level polish like a satin finish, and because most Travertine floors come from the factory with that low shine/hone and mostMarble honing in Houston Texas by Texas Floor Restoration Marble floors come from the factory polished dose not mean all marble or Travertine floors that come that way or has to stay that way. Marble honing can also be performed with the use of an abrasive compound power also known as ,honing powders and state-of-the-art diamond pads. The most important thing is how you seal your Marble when you’re done honing because that’s going to keep it looking better for longer.

MARBLE CLEANING SERVICES : Orange County & Newport Coast

Our marble cleaning typically involves a intensive cleaner that is very affective, but very gentle on the stone. We are very careful not to get the stone too wet, because any floor can be water logged or flooded. This is very important because water and soap can hurt or damage your floor by penetrating too deep.

Marble cleaning with a surface cleaner

There are alot of other companies that will use surface cleaners which is basically a pressure washer with a vacuum. These machines often open up the pores on soft stones, and for that reason we don’t recommend using that on your specialty floor.      image

These machines use between 1200-1800psi at 3 gallons per minute, that is way to much water hitting the floor with to much pressure. The vacuum does not stop the water from penetrating the floor and opening up the pours.

Let me give you example that you might understand: If you have ever pressure washed your driveway or concrete you would have noticed little particles of sand all over you and everything around you. Now we can think that it’s dirt but the truth is that it’s prat of the concrete and you are opening up the pours. Thats why after cleaning your concrete it gets dirtier fater and faster unless you seal it. this will happen to your marble the same way.

 Marble Maintenance Services :

Once you have your marble floors done by a professional, the floors should last about 1-4 years depending on traffic and if the floor was sealed correctly. We recommend getting your floors done as needed in that window, and never wait longer than the recommended 4 years.

Types of Marble Finishes

Marble tiles have become more and more popular in home flooring, walls, backslpash, pavers, and around the pool. All travertine can look uniquely different due to their different finishes. Some of the most popular finishes are polished (a mirror like shine), tumbled (rough), Brushed (worn or textured suface), or honed (matte). Your Texas Floor technician will be able to successfully identify which type of travertine you have and can further advise you on how to clean to it’s maximum potential. Each marble is different, and they varry on color, durability, porosity, and density depending on the quarry that it came from. No two marbles are the same so be cautious when a company has a “one size fits all” answer to your floor cleaning plan.

Mistakes we see when Cleaning Marble

Cleaning marble requires special tools, chemicals, sealers, and protectants to prevent scratching, etching, and permanent staining. If your professional DOES NOT have the right tools, chemicals and expertise he could create a scenario for some fairly signifigant damage to your marble stone. CAUTION: never clean marble with cleaning products containing lemon, bleach vinegar, or any type of acidic products. Also never use scouring creams and powders. These types of products will etch or scratchmarble floors and cause costly marble restoration services to your budget. Also NEVER clean with high alkaline cleaner as they break down the sealer leaving your floors vulnerable to water stains, etch marks, and other stains. We also NEVER  Recommend using using OxiClean or Mr.Clean Magic Eraser as a cleaner on any type of natural stone. OxiClean and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser have many beneficial uses but using it to clean your marble is NOT one of them. All our clients receive a comprehansive Stone Care Guide that address these issues.

The next biggest mistake we see people make is that either home owners or their professional marble cleaner will use a generic sealer from the local hardware store that leaves the floor with a sticky residue. The reason for that is because your polished, tumbled or honed marble has various different porosities. You will need a sealer that correctly matches your marble type.

Marble Polishing ServicesWhat is Marble?

Marble is a rock resulting from the metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks, most commonly limestone or dolomite rocks. Metamorphism causes variable recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. Marble comes in many different colors and designs. Pure white marble is the result of metamorphism of a very pure limestone. The characteristic swirls and veins of many colored marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand, or chert which were originally present as grains or layers in the limestone. Another type of marble, green marble, is often due to serpentine resulting from originally high magnesium limestone or dolostone with silica impurities. These various impurities have been mobilized and recrystallized by the intense pressure and heat of the metamorphism. Construction marble is a stone which is composed of calcite, dolomite or serpentine which is very easily polished. Marble is a stone that many cultures use to show status or wealth. Marble is a gorgeous stone than can transform any room to elegance. Whether you have a new marble floor that you want to keep its luster or an older marble floor than you want restored to that brand new shine; Texas Floor Restoration knows marble.

What our clients are saying about us…Pacific Carpet & Tile Cleaning – Orange County CA

I know that you can’t always believe what a company says about itself or its service, and I don’t want you to just take my word that I am the best. I can tend to be biased. But you certainly can believe what my clients have to say. At Pacific I have over 14,000 more-than-satisfied clients that would never allow any other carpet cleaning company in their home.

Here are what just a few of them have to say about my company, my technicians, and my service. All references are available upon request.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

I wanted to let everyone know how impressed I am with their services. I was living with my Boyfriend and his 2 male roommates. I hate to say it but the carpet was so bad I was embarrassed to have people come over, until I had this company clean the carpets. Upon moving out I called many places who gave me quotes up to $200.00 for a 1,052 square foot apartment and that was without their special spot remover. Pacific carpet cleaning aka http://tileandcarpetclea… quoted $99.00 including spot remover.I believe the gentleman I spoke with at first was Jeff, also the owner, he had great knowledge and was very detailed regarding his equipment. He also gave me tips on how to keep my new upcoming white carpet clean and also suggested a inexpensive carpet cleaner spray I can use if I had any small accident spills. Our carpet cleaner was named Alex who I also called David Blaine and David Copperfield because of the fact that the stains would magically disappear before my eyes, he was quick, friendly and gave 100% effort. Their equipment is superior. The total bill ended up being $130.00. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I now added them to my contacts as, “The Bomb Carpet Cleaners.” Thank you Pacific Carpet Cleaners for your knowledge and your incredible services.Natalie E.,

Irvine, CA ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————These guys are the best.  I’ve used them 3 times to clean my nasty carpets.  I have three dogs and things get dirty fast.  Each time I made an appointment they’ve always showed up on time, usually with 2 guys.  They tap your hot water heater and drag in these super long hoses into your house.  I swear the carpets are new when they finish.  I’ve used other carpet cleaners and these guys are significantly cheaper.  Will be using them again.

Love, Love Love these guys. They are inexpensive and do a great job. Have used them several times and each time they come make my carpets look like brand new each time. I even have pet problems and they make them go away!! They are my carpet cleaners for ever. Just found out they do tile and upholstery cleaning to. Cant wait to get my tile cleaned next month! —————————————————————————————————————————————————————image

“You have cleaned my carpet 4 or 5 times and your technicians have always been nice and did a good job. I’ve always been pleased. If I hadn’t been pleased they would have only been here 1 Time. Your company was able to take the smell of dog urine out of the hall carpet. Thanks.

“We have a sculpted carpet and you were able to get out a stain that would have otherwise necessitated replacement of an entire room’s carpeting. Good to excellent general cleaning.

How Often Should I Clean My Carpet? – Beach Areas, Orange County, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Balboa, Corona Del Mar

This is a commonly asked question.  I have had people say that they have not had their carpets cleaned in 10 years or more because they have relied on myths and misconceptions.  The fact is that cleaning extends the life of your carpet and saves you the tremendous amount of money required to replace prematurely worn carpet.  Carpets cleaned on a regular basis provide a healthy, safe living environment for you and your family at the same time adding years of life to one of the larger investments in your home.  So the question is, how often should they be cleaned?  The answer can depend on several factors.  The chart below taken from the IICRC Reference Guide for Professional Carpet Cleaning can assist you in answering this all important question.

Cleaning  Marble, Granite, Travertine, Limestone, Slate…  Orange County CA

These type of natural stone and made materials are highly desirable these days & highly used in surfaces like floors, counter-tops, showers, walls, etc. With this new use of natural stone in homes, offices, buildings & more has come an enormous lack of knowledge & misinformation regarding the best use & maintenance to keep these natural stone materials looking at their best.

Travertine Tile Cleaning, Polishing, Sealing & Hole Repair

Travertine is a very porous type of natural stone, dirt and debris get stuck in  its grooves causing the surface to look darker and dirty. A deep cleaning of the surface will usually get rid of most foreign objects and substances trap in its pores. Unlike marble there are various types of finishes we can achieve with travertine, ex: matte, honed, satin, semi-gloss & high-gloss. However, satin finish is the most popular with least maintenance that holds up the longest.

Limestone Restoration, Maintenance & Beautification

Limestone is a soft porous stone. However, it is more resilient and better in terms of maintenance than its cousin travertine. nevertheless it needs a good maintenance program to keep its surface looking nice and clean. It is recommended to use PH neutral cleaners to periodically clean the surface of limestone, this helps keep dirt and debris from clogging its pores. Different finishes can be achieved with limestone, matte and satin being the most popular.

Slate/Flagstone/Sandstone Cleaning, Sealing & Repair

Overtime slate and flagstone have become very popular materials to use in home and building exteriors throughout Los Angeles. With its popularity has also come a lack of knowledge on how this beautiful natural stones need to be maintain. At Pacific we like to educate our customers and also home/building designers and architects to avoid going through the pit falls of using low-density materials in high-exposure areas

Travertine Cleaning Services: Our travertine cleaning typically involves our intensive cleaner that is very affective, but very gentle on your stone. Travertine Cleaning with surface Cleaner

Surface Cleaner

Surface cleaners come in all different shapes and sizes but all do the same thing. Basically a pressure washer with a vacuum combo. Do you want somebody pressure washing your $20,000+ floor?. I warn you against this machine  becase it can ruin your floor by opening all the pours in your Travertine. It works ok for ceramic or porcelain but if you dont have one of those floors I would steer clear.  Travertine Maintenance Services :

Once you have your travertine floors done by a professional, the floors should last about 2-6 years depending on traffic and if the floor was sealed correctly. We recommend getting your floors done as needed in that window, and never wait longer than the recommended 6 years.

Different Types of Travertine Finishes

Travertine tiles have become more and more popular in home flooring, walls, backslpash, pavers, and around the pool. All travertine can look uniquely different due to their different finishes. Some of the most popular finishes are honed (matte), tumbled (rough or pitted surface), Brushed (worn or textured surface), or polished (shiny). Your Texas Floor technician will be able to successfully identify which type of travertine you have and can further advise on how to clean to it’s maximum potential. Each travertine is different and they varry on color, durability, porosity, and density depending on the quarry that it came from. No two travertine floors are the same so be cautious when a company has a “one size fits all” answer to your floor cleaning plan.

Mistakes we see when Cleaning Travertine

Cleaning travertine requires special tools, chemicals, sealers, and protectants to prevent scratching, etching, and permanent staining. If your professional DOES NOT have the right tools, chemicals and expertise he could create a scenario for some fairly signifigant damage to your travertine stone. CAUTION: never clean travertine with cleaning products containing lemon, bleach vinegar, or any type of acidic product. Also never use scouring creams and powders. These types of products will etch or scratch travertine floors and cause costly travertine restoration services to your budget. Clean Magic Eraser have many beneficial uses but using it to clean your travertine is NOT one of them. All our clients receive a comprehansive Stone Care Guide that address these issues.

The next biggest mistake we see people make is that either home owners or their professional travertine cleaner will use a generic sealer from the local hardware store that leaves the floor with a sticky residue. The reason for that is because your honed, tumbled or polished travertine has various different porosities. You will need a sealer that correctly matches your Travertine type.

In many instances, when cleaning travertine that is evev modertly soiled, the process may uncover surface scratches, small holes, and even hairline cracks that are disguised from the soiling. Simmularly, the travertine maintence cleaning may dislodge filler in the travertine that is not stable. Our travertine repair or travertine honing process wiik adequetly address most of these issues.

What is Travertine?

Travertine is a form of limestone that is deposited by mineral springs. It has a fibrous or concentric look to it. It is formed by rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. It is sometimes known as travertine limestone or travertine marble but these are the same stone, although travertine is classified correctly as a type of limestone and not marble. The stone is characterized by the holes or troughs in its surface. Even though these troughs naturally occur, they suggest signs of considerable wear and tear over time. These holes can be filled with a special travertine filler. Travertine is one of the more popular stones in modern architecture. The largest building in the world is actually constructed mostly of travertine. In conclusion, travertine is a beautiful and often times unique natural stone that can make any room look beautiful. Whether you have a new travertine floor that you would like to keep looking like new or an older travertine floor that you want to restore, Texas Floor Restoration knows travertine.
