Area Rug Cleaning

With Pacific Carpet Cleaning, your expensive area rug is safe in our hands.  We follow specific guidelines for special materials and woven composites. Our technicians will take special care to use the correct solutions and methods for your specific rug material, and we will follow manufacturer recommendations and warranty requirements.

Soiled rugs are no problem for Pacific Carpet Cleaning!

Pet stains and ground-in dirt will be a thing of the past. We will have your rug looking, smelling, and feeling as new as the day you brought it home.

We use full vacuum extraction when we clean your rug, so you never have to worry about leftover liquids or cleaning solutions.

Protect Your Carpet

Carpet manufacturers apply protectors when they are produced to keep your carpets cleaner, longer.  With use, the protection fades over time.  We suggest reapplying the protector after our cleaning process to help ease the wear associated with traffic patters.  It will also allow you to remove more dirt from your carpet with regular vacuuming because the protector creates a barrier to keep dirt from deeply penetrating the carpet fibers.  It will also provide you some extra time to clean up spills before they become stains.

Pet Odor and Stains

We pay extra special attention to pet odors and stains. We can remove even the toughest, yellowest pet urine spots, leaving your carpet beautiful, stain-free, and in great-looking condition.

Carpet Repair and Re-stretching

After years of wear and tear, anybody’s carpet starts to look worn. Some carpets even come loose, showing unsightly wrinkles in the middle of the room that can be dangerous to walk over.

You don’t have to replace a whole room of carpet just because it’s starting to sag in certain spots. We can re-stretch your carpet to look just as flat and smooth as the day it was installed.

Maybe you have holes in your carpet worn in by office chairs, dining room chairs, or a busy living room. We can fix that, too. We can patch holes in your carpet and completely replace certain patches that may seem like they’re too far gone.

Does your carpet look like a total disaster? Give us a call to schedule an evaluation, and we’ll see what we can do.  Odds are, we can have your carpet looking like new again in a matter of days.

Stain Removal

Our environmental solutions include high-powered stain removal for carpet, rugs, upholstery, and drapery. We have experience removing hard-to-get pet stains and even ground-in prints from high heels and dirty boots with proven, ecologically sound stain fighters.

As is the case with all of our products and services, Pacific uses vacuum extraction to make sure your stains disappear completely, along with any odors or residues, leaving you with a fresh, clean surface that is stain-free.

We can even offer eco-friendly products like Upholstery Protector and Pet Odor Eliminator that you can use to keep your furniture smelling and looking great for a long time to come.

Carpet cleaning methods: Steam cleaning vs. dry cleaning – Orange County

Carpet cleaning methods: Steam cleaning vs. dry cleaning

The time has come. Despite your best efforts, years of stains, grit and grime have accumulated in your carpet. You finally decided to get it thoroughly cleaned, but how do you know which carpet cleaning method to pick?

Steam cleaning a dry cleaning are both popular methods for cleaning carpets, but does one have an advantage over the other?

The myth of the steam clean

In the steam clean versus dry clean debate, it’s important to clear up the myth that “steam” is actually used to clean your carpets. While home and commercial machines use hot water, which gives off some steam, steam itself does not clean your carpet. Instead, a detergent is sprayed onto your carpet. Hot water activates the detergent on the carpet fibers — alkaline for synthetic carpets and acidic for wool or natural fiber carpets. A wet-vac is then used to suck up the bulk of the water on the floor.

Home steam cleaning products

There are many types of steam machines available for home purchase or rent. Home models typically rely on hot tap water to get the job done, while those rented from a hardware or grocery store may have a heating element. Both types operate the same way: You place a cleaning solution in the machine, move it slowly and methodically over your carpet, then suck up and dump out the water. Once cleaned, your carpets are not usable for a period — usually between 12 and 24 hours — while the remaining water dries. One issue with the steam method is the shrinking of the carpet when leftover water dries; however, unless your carpet is made entirely of natural, untreated fibers, this will not be a problem.

The case for commercial steam cleaners

You can also hire professional carpet cleaners to come and steam clean your flooring. They will often use a more highly powered machine or one attached to a vehicle. These systems operate on the same principle as at-home systems but are much more powerful, allowing them to force more detergent into the carpet and suck up more water. They are faster than home systems and have a shorter drying time.

Dry cleaning carpets

The other option available is dry cleaning. This method of carpet cleaning uses dry chemical compounds that are placed on a carpet and break down whatever soil or particulate matter they find. The name of this cleaning method is also misleading because they use a small amount of moisture in the form of application solutions, which complement the dry compounds used. Dry cleaning offers the advantage of time; floors can be used again almost instantly after cleaning is complete. Dry cleaning compounds are often used in industrial and retail settings for this reason.

Pros and cons

Steam cleaning your carpet yourself means you need only hot water, a rented machine and detergent. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait between 12 and 24 hours to walk on your carpet again. Ground-in stains typically reappear in the first few days after cleaning. Commercial solutions can eliminate some of these problems, but there are certain stains — pet stains or chemical stains, for example — that require multiple treatments or cannot be removed.

Dry cleaning, meanwhile, offers the advantage of almost no drying time and an effective cleaning through chemical agents and application solutions. The chemicals used, however, can often be harsh, and homeowners are advised to speak with a commercial cleaning company about the products they use and any strong odors they may have.

Comparison of Carpet Cleaning Methods – newport beach ca

What is the best way to clean carpet? There are four basic methods for cleaning carpet:

  • Carpet Shampooing
  • Dry Powder Method
  • Bonnet Cleaning
  • “External Extraction”® Method

Also:

  • Other General Cleaning Information

Carpet Shampoo Method

The theory in the shampoo method is to generate a lot of foam in the carpet, allow this foam to dry, have the resulting residue attract the soil and vacuum up the residue and soil the next day.

Carpet shampoo products must have the following characteristics which dictate their ingredients:

  • Very high foam levels to reduce wetting.
  • Very stable foam.
  • High lubricity to reduce damage to the carpet fibers from the brushes.
  • Dry to a non-sticky residue.

Therefore, a carpet shampoo must contain a very foamy chemical. The most common ingredient is sodium lauryl sulfate or one of its relatives. Sometime when you’re taking a shower or bath, look at the ingredient statement on your hair shampoo bottle. It will say “Contains sodium lauryl sulfate” or some similar wording. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and its relatives exhibit a very high and very stable foam and are only fair detergents. The problem is that they dry to a soft, sticky residue which will cause resoiling.

Because of the resoiling problem, carpet shampoos will frequently also have an anti-resoiling additive such as a resin to reduce this resoiling tendency.

Because shampoos are actually very poor detergents and basically simply bury the dirt, they frequently also contain high levels of optical brighteners which take invisible ultraviolet light and convert it to visible light, thus making the carpet appear cleaner and brighter than it really is, for a while. It will eventually give the carpet a yellow cast and the yellow cannot be removed.

Two primary types of machines are used for this process:

  • Cylindrical Foam
  • Rotary Shampoo

The Cylindrical Foam Shampoo machine uses an air compressor to create dry foam before the foam is applied to the carpet and the carpet is then agitated with a revolving cylindrical brush which combs the foam through carpet pile. This method will leave dirt trapped in the carpet pile. Carpet must be thoroughly vacuumed before and after cleaning.

The Rotary Shampoo method uses an ordinary rotary floor machine (the same kind used for stripping wax), sprays shampoo onto the carpet from a dispensing tank and a rotary brush whips the detergent to a foam. Most carpet mills and carpet fiber producers discourage the use of rotary brushes on carpet because of the potential damage that can occur. Overwetting is common with this method which can cause jute straining, shrinkage and odor.

Shampoo methods are inferior due to poor cleaning plus resoiling problems. The Rotary Shampoo method can damage the carpet, especially cut pile (which is what most residential carpet is).

Carpet Absorbent Cleaners

This method is often called “dry cleaning” since virtually no water is used.

In this method, dry absorbent compound (containing small amounts of water, detergent, and solvent,) is sprinkled over carpet or worked into the carpet with a machine. This purpose of this cleaner is to attract and absorb soil. Mechanical agitation from a brush works the cleaner through the carpet.

These products usually contain an absorbent carrier, water, detergent and solvent. The theory is that the liquids dissolve the soil and this soil/detergent/solvent mixture is absorbed into the carrier and is then vacuumed up. They are often used with a detergent prespray in heavily soiled areas.

The absorbent cleaner most commonly is organic, but may also be polymers. The compound is supposed to absorb the dislodged soil and is then vacuumed away. Carpet must be thoroughly vacuumed before and after cleaning.

Very thorough vacuuming should be used to ensure that most of the carrier comes out of the carpet. With the extremely fine powder types, indoor air quality can be reduced. If a white powder starts appearing on shoes and cuffs of pants, too much was used and it was not thoroughly vacuumed up. A common problem is for this white powder to reappearafter wet extraction cleaning.

This cleaning method has the advantage of no drying time for interim maintenance, since little water is used. This makes it a common maintenance cleaner.

Host®, Capture®, Love My Carpet®, Arm and Hammer® and Carpet Fresh® would be included in this category.

Bonnet Method / “Carbonated Cleaning”

This method is sometimes called “dry cleaning”, which is a misnomer, since water is used.

Bonnet Shampooing is simply an adaptation of hard floor spray buffing to carpets.

This method for carpet maintenance consists of the use of a rotary or oscillating brush adapted with a stiff brush or drive block designed to drive wet, damp or dry pads. The carpet can be sprayed with the cleaning solution and/or the pads can be soaked in the cleaning solution and squeezed lightly before placing the pad under the driving brush.

The maintenance brochure published by the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, Shaw Industries, suggests not using this method, especially on cut pile, due to pile distortion and fiber damage. This method has very limited capability for soil removal and leaves much of the detergent in the pile since it employs no real extraction. As a result, rapid re-soiling often occurs. Another disadvantage is that the spinning bonnet may distort the fibers of cut pile carpet, fuzzing the pile and leaving distinct swirl marks.

Sometimes, carbonated water is used to (in theory) give better soil suspension and bring down the pH. Companies using this method frequently use “scare” tactics to convince consumers that extraction cleaning or steam cleaning will destroy the carpet.

Check with your carpet manufacturer because many leading carpet mills recommend against this method of cleaning.

Hot water extraction or warm water extraction or steam cleaning (“External Extraction”®) is THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN CARPET according to nearly all carpet manufacturers

This method, the best way to clean carpet, is the cleaning method nearly all carpet manufacturers and carpet fiber producers recommend.

This is the only cleaning method classified as “deep cleaning”. All the others are considered “light surface cleaning” or “interim cleaning” because they are incapable of removing soil deep in the pile. Also, all other methods leave large amounts of cleaning agent in the carpet after cleaning.

The maintenance brochure published by the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, Shaw Industries, recommends this method, because its own research indicates that it provides the best capability for cleaning carpet and rugs.

This carpet cleaning method is frequently called steam cleaning due to the fine spray of water used to force dirt out of the carpet which is sucked up by the vacuum slot immediately in front of the spray. Seldom is real live steam used, however. This process consists of spraying a solution of water and detergent into the carpet pile and recovering the water and soil with a powerful vacuum into a holding tank. This can be done from a truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and floor tool brought inside, or by a portable, system brought into the home or office.

From a health standpoint, the truck-mounted system is preferred because the dirty air and humidity are exhausted outside rather than recirculated around the house. Additionally, truck-mounted systems usually are more powerful than portable units and do a much better cleaning job and get the carpet dry more quickly.

With some truck-mounted systems (called PTO’s), the vehicle itself must run in neutral during the cleaning and in many others a separate engine (sometimes with a propane or oil-fired heater) is used to power the unit and heat the water. In both cases, the van MUST be parked well away from the house and positioned so that exhaust fumes do not enter the house. Electric carpet cleaning machines, such as the Bane-Clene systems, do not have this problem.

Depending upon the equipment, temperatures may range from cold tap water to boiling hot water and even super heated water over 200 degrees F. Of course, with extremely high temperatures, there are dangers of scalding should a solution line break as well as the danger of damaging the carpet fibers.

General Comments

The choice of the the best carpet cleaning method is extremely important. Some systems leave residues which promote re-soiling and defeat the whole purpose of cleaning. Some methods actually damage the carpet fibers and shorten the life of the carpet. Check with the carpet manufacturer for recommendations.

Carpet Cleaning Frequency:

If carpet is cleaned before it becomes too unsightly, the cleaning chore will be easier and more successful. Allowing the carpet to become overly soiled may result in irreversible damage. It is a common myth that cleaning the carpet before it is absolutely necessary will cause it to get dirty faster. This goes back to the days when the shampoo methods were the most common.

Carpet in a typical household should be professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months depending upon the number of residents, amount and type of activity and whether the carpet is light or dark color.

Professional Carpet Cleaning versus “Do-It-Yourself” Cleaning:

The maintenance brochure published by the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, Shaw Industries, recommends professional carpet cleaning over “Do-It-Yourself” because of the potential problems that can occur from using rental equipment – such as yellowing, overwetting, fiber tip damage, severe resoiling, overuse of detergents, etc. Most rental units available do not adequately clean and may actually damage the carpet.

How to Clean & Disinfect Your Carpet – Orange County CA

smellycarpet

Tim asked: How do I disinfect our carpet? I recently found out that my dog has worms (because she was doing the bum-slide on the my carpet). I have a 7 month old who is rolling and crawling on that same carpet. How do I disinfect the carpet so my baby doesn’t get sick.

Table of Contents:

  1. You Will Need
  2. Steps to Disinfect the Carpet
  3. Additional Tips and Advice

If you have a carpet mess that needs to be not only cleaned, but disinfected, white vinegar does the job. Eco-friendly and non-toxic, it’s a great solution for busy households in need of a quick fix. Best of all, it’s completely safe for both kids and pets, safe to pour down the drain, and inexpensive to use.

You Will Need:

  • Steam cleaner
  • White vinegar
  • Hot water

Steps to Disinfect the Carpet:

  1. Mix a solution of vinegar and water. If no ratios are given for the machine, you can use one part vinegar to one part water. For severe cases, use full strength vinegar. If soap-to-water ratios are given, replace the portion of soap with vinegar.
  2. Fill the detergent vessel of the steam cleaner with the solution. Do not overfill.
  3. Run the steam cleaner over the carpets, following directions for the machine.
  4. Allow the carpet to dry before use and traffic resumes. It works well to clean the carpets in the evening before going to bed so they can dry through the night. The vinegar smell will dissipate once the carpet dries.

Additional Tips and Advice

  • Before you begin, spot test the carpet with the vinegar. Allow the vinegar to sit in a hidden spot (closet?) for several minutes, then blot the area with a clean cloth while it’s still wet. If the color does not wash out or transfer to the cloth, wait 24 hours and inspect the carpet for damage. If none is visible, the carpet can be considered safe to clean with vinegar.
  • Wet carpets attract a great deal of dirt, so if it’s not possible to avoid walking on the carpet until it’s dry, lay some heavy duty towels down, especially in high traffic areas.  Be sure to remove the towels when the room is not in use so the carpet will dry more quickly.
  • If the vinegar smell sticks around after the carpet has dried, sprinkle the carpet with baking soda and allow it to sit for several minutes to an hour before vacuuming it up. Make sure the carpet is completely dry before sprinkling the baking soda on it or it will react with the moist vinegar and you will end up with a gunky mess.
  • Steam mops also work well to disinfect carpet. Many come with a carpet attachment that will move across the carpet fibers. It will not clean it like a carpet steam cleaner, but the heat from the steam will kill any bacteria that may be present.
  • If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, look for commercial cleaners that will disinfect as they clean. They are available in the same areas where carpet steamers and vacuums are sold.

Clean Your Carpets Because They Are Germ Hotspots – Orange County CA

image

Carpeting can be a great flooring option at home. It adds warmth, comfort and feels good on bare feet. But because of all the traffic it encounters, it tends to get pretty dirty over time. In fact, according to Men’s Health, it’s a germ hotspot and can be 4,000 times dirtier than your toilet seat — ew! “Rugs are botanical and zoological parks,” microbiologist Dr. Philip Tierno told the magazine, and mentioned that they can have many different organisms living in them.

So what’s the best way to clean a carpet? Well, Men’s Health suggests hiring a professional once a year for a deep steam-cleaning. But weekly maintenance is super important as well. TLC’s How Stuff Works recommends vacuuming regularly and applying soil retardants and baking soda to the surface.

We knew this wall-to-wall textile could end up spotty, but we had no idea there could be so many creepy crawlers lingering in the fibers. So be sure to pay extra attention to your rugs this weekend if you’re doing some spring cleaning.

Got dirty carpets? Best Carpet Cleaning Methods in Orange County CA

image

Got dirty carpets? There’s certainly no lack of cleaning options, including buying a carpet-cleaning machine, renting one, or hiring a pro. We tried them all. While nothing beat the ease and performance of a pro, some of the nine machines we tested came pretty close for less money.

Before we put the machines to work, we had to ready our lab. By the time we were finished, it looked like a gang of kids wearing muddy sneakers had run amok. Panels of off-white nylon plush carpet treated with stain repellent were embedded with topsoil. After vacuuming, we tested each carpet cleaner with its manufacturer-recommended solution and passed over a soiled area 20 times.

But sometimes you just need to clean up a few spills by hand. To test stain removers, we poured specific amounts of wine, coffee, spaghetti sauce, and French dressing on untreated nylon carpet panels. After two hours we blotted up what hadn’t been absorbed. The next day we worked in the removers. Here are the highlights of our various tests:

Size matters

Machines that were better at lifting embedded dirt, such as the $270 Hoover Dual V Steam Vac and the $170 Hoover Steam Vac, have larger, more powerful motors. The $80 Bissell QuickSteamer 1770 was a lightweight, in pounds and performance. It was very good at extracting cleaning solution because it didn’t put much down. It was only fair at cleaning.

The $80 Little Green compact carpet cleaner claims it cleans as well as a full-sized model and works on stains. But it left our off-white carpet a medium gray; almost all of the full-sized models did a better job at removing dirt. Plus the Little Green did little on our tough stains.

Solutions can cause problems

Bissell and Hoover, the two largest manufacturers of carpet cleaners, say you must use their cleaning solutions in their machines or you could void the warranty or cause electrical shock or fire by damaging the machine. The good news is that most of the manufacturers’ solutions we tested performed similarly and were very good, which is why they’re not in the Ratings. If your machine doesn’t specify a solution, try Fresh Solutions Allergen Complete, sold at Sears. It was tops in our tests and costs less.

Rental pros and cons

Rug Doctor’s Mighty Pro, which can be rented at stores nationwide for $20 to $30 per 24 hours, seems like a bargain. It cleaned as well as some of our top-rated machines, and you can clean a large area before emptying the dirty water. But it was heavy and bulky and left the carpet pretty wet. So you’ll have to wait longer to put furniture back in the room and walk on the carpet. Use a dehumidifier to speed up drying.

Pros are easy but expensive

Pacific Carpet Cleaning Machines outperformed all of the carpet-cleaning machines we tested, removing all visible dirt. Even the best machine we tested left behind some dirt. Pacific’s poweful machines also removed tough stains from a staffer’s carpets. Even the best machines in our tests only lightened the stains.

Muscle vs. machine

Coffee and red wine stains are tougher to remove because they tend to quickly soak into carpet. None of the stain removers we tested were very good at removing all types of stains. Vacuum maker Dyson’s Dyzolv was the least effective and most expensive.

With Bissell’s $130 SpotBot compact cleaner, you push a button and walk away while it works. SpotBot removed all of the red wine and most of the tomato sauce from carpet treated with stain protector, but on untreated carpet it wasn’t much better than a mediocre stain remover. Instead try a wet/dry vacuum to lift the initial spill. Then apply the stain remover and use the vacuum to suck up the cleaner and stain. Repeat as needed. 6 Costly Carpet Cleaning Misconceptions

Misconception #1: You should wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpet

No. Dirt is an abrasive like sandpaper.  Every time you step on the carpet. you grind dirt into your carpet fibers. This cuts your carpet just as if you had used a knife, causing it to wear out faster. A dirty carpet will not last nearly as long as a clean carpet. And while  vacuuming helps by itself, it’s simply not enough.  The longer you wait to have your carpet cleaned the more damage you do to your carpet and the faster it wears out.

Misconception #2: The only reason to clean carpets is to get out the dirt.

No. As you probably know outdoor air contains pollens, fungus, bacteria, air pollution cigarette smoke, car exhaust and hundreds of other chemicals.  When you and your  family members come into your home you carry those pollens , bacteria, and chemicals in your hair, on your skin, clothing, and shoes.  Not surprisingly all those chemicals, pollens and bacteria wind up, you guessed it, in your carpet because of gravity.

If you have allergies, asthma, emphysema, or other breathing problems , one major source  of your problem could be the pollens, fungus, and or chemicals caught in your carpet.

If you’re sensitive to cigarette smoke, you also might find that you’ll breath easier after you hire  a company to get those harmful chemicals out of your carpet.  So in addition to getting rid of dirt., another important reason to clean your carpet is to get  rid of residue from tobacco smoke.  Since, as you may know, tobacco smoke contains over 4000 different chemical  compounds, 43 of which cause cancer. So even if you don’t smoke, but somebody in the house does, those chemicals get left in your carpet.

Misconceptions #3: One method of carpet cleaning is as good as another.

No. You can choose from two primary methods: Dry cleaning or Hot water extraction. First I’ll explain dry cleaning. Many people believe that dry cleaning your carpet is like dry cleaning you clothing. It’s not the same. All carpet cleaning methods use some water one form or another.

Here are the three methods of dry cleaning carpet

1 ) Dry foam method. When a carpet cleaner uses dry foam, he applies shampoo to your carpet, allows it to dry, and then sucks the dried shampoo into a vacuum.  Can you imagine applying shampoo to your hair, allowing it to dry and then removing the shampoo from your head with a vacuum?  This method can leave a residue in your carpet, which is one reason dry foam is not very effective.

2 ) Dry-Chem method is similar to dry foam. The major difference is that when a  dry-chemical is used, the company sets a large cotton bonnet on your carpet. Using a machine, the bonnet spins form side to side, absorbing  the dirt in the carpet. After the bonnet is  saturated with dirt another cotton bonnet is applied.  Bonnet cleaning is like trying to use a large towel to rub the dirt out of your carpet.  Like dry foam, its not very effective for deep down restorative cleaning.

3 ) Dry-compound method spreads an absorbent mixture that looks like wet sawdust all over your carpeting. Then the machine brushes the mixture into the carpet, which in theory causes dirt to absorb in the mixture. When the mixture has dried, a vacuum cleaner sucks the material out of the carpeting. Because the carpet is not rinsed in any way, this method is not very effective.

The second carpet cleaning method is called hot water extraction.

This is a fancy way of saying that a hot water cleaning solution under high pressure is forced into the carpet and then extracted (sucked) immediately back out of the carpet. This method is also  referred to as steam cleaning even though steam is not used.

Shaw Industries, the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, recommends hot water extraction, and you can choose from two different types,  Portable extraction. which is done with a small machine, or truck mount extraction which means the large cleaning machine is mounted in a truck or van.

Not surprisingly. the truck mount extraction cleans much better because it heats the water to a higher temperature and shoots the cleaning solution into the carpet at higher pressure which breaks up the dirt, bacteria and pollens.  Then the machine uses higher suction to draw the dirt out of the carpet. (This is the method  To The Rescue!  uses )

No question, the most effective way to clean carpeting is with a hot-water unit mounted in a truck. It’s the most powerful cleaning machine on the market and the only machine that thoroughly cleans your carpet and rids it of dirt, harmful bacteria, fungus. chemicals, pollens and tobacco residue.

Some people believe that hot water damages your carpet, but this isn’t true.  By washing and then rinsing your carpet with hot water we clean your carpet completely in the same way that the person who showers and then rinses off the dirt and soap will be much cleaner  than the person who takes only a sponge bath.

Misconception  #4: Having the right equipment is all a company needs to clean your carpets properly.

Not true. Many companies own hot-water cleaners but a large number of employees don’t know how to use them. You probably know someone who bought the newest  computer on the market, but didn’t learn how to use it for a year or more.  The same is  true with carpet cleaning machines. The company may own good equipment, but the employees may not know how to use it correctly.  This is why it’s important that you choose your carpet cleaning technician carefully.

The best carpet cleaning companies are those that have been certified by the Institute of  Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, known as the IICRC.  A carpet cleaning company cannot buy this certification.  The carpet cleaner must earn the certification  through study, experience and the successful completion of  a formal, written examinations. Cleaners who are certified by the IICRC have in effect. earned a degree in carpet cleaning.

The IICRC provides written credentials to the companies it certifies. So before you choose  a carpet cleaner ask to see written proof of the company’s IICRC certification.

Then you’ll find other carpet cleaners, professionals like me who work hard to earn your  trust and respect.

Misconception #5: The company that offers the lowest price is the company you should  hire.

Maybe, … but not always. Here are two important points to consider;

Point #1: The price you see offered may not be for all the services you want performed.

Before you select a company, decide what you want to accomplish.  If you want the carpet cleaner to remove only some of the dirt, you can choose from hundreds of companies that use small shampooers or other cleaning methods. You can even rent a machine at the grocery store and do the job yourself.

On the other hand if you want your carpet thoroughly cleaned ,if you want to remove the harmful dirt, bacteria, pollens, chemicals and tobacco residues, then you need to hire a company that uses a hot water cleaner mounted in a truck.  This is the only way to assure that your carpet remains healthy and free from dirt, disease-causing bacteria, and hurtful chemicals.  So remember that the price you see offered may not be for the services you want performed.

Point #2: The price you see advertised may not be the price you end up paying.

Many homeowners have found that the low price they saw advertised was not the amount  they were charged. If you’ve ever hired a carpet cleaner, you too may have been the victim of false or misleading advertising.  You may have learned the hard way that some carpet cleaners offer a cheap price usually between $9.95 and $12.95 per room and then pressure you into paying a lot more once they get inside your home. Some of them may even break the law by using illegal bait and switch tactics.

As in all businesses and professions, the carpet cleaning industry has its share of bad apples. I take no pleasure in telling you this. but some are unethical and sadly, a few are dishonest.  By their misleading advertising and false promises. they cast a dark shadow on our entire industry.

First, honest, reputable carpet cleaning companies across the USA usually price carpet cleaning by the square foot.  So if you’d like me to tell you the exact cost of cleaning your carpet, I need to know the exact number of square feet that you want cleaned.  To get an accurate  measurement, I have a measuring tape I use to calculate the exact size of the carpet area.   You’ll be glad to know that the carpet area to be cleaned is not nearly as great as most  people think.  For example, if you want your entire home cleaned and your home is 2000 square feet, the amount of carpeting to be cleaned might be only 1200 square feet.  This is  because most home measurements are outdoor measurements.  Plus I deduct the area taken  up by walls, room dividers and the like.  The result is that the actual area to be cleaned is  usually only about 60% or less of the square footage of most home.

So even though I can’t give you an exact quote over the telephone, here are things I  consider when quoting a price.

First, the type of carpet. Certain types of carpet are harder to clean than others.  So before I can give you a quote, I need to know the type of carpet you want cleaned.

Second, the amount of soiling.  Carpet that hasn’t been cleaned for ten years will take longer to clean than carpet that was cleaned within the last six months.

Third, the amount of furniture that has to be moved.  If we have to move your furniture  the bid must include that labor. But if you move your furniture, you’ll save money.

To recap, I consider the type of carpet, the amount of soiling, and the amount of furniture that has to be moved.  So, as you can now imagine, every quotation is different.

Commercial Steam Tile and Grout Cleaners

Pacific’s extrensive line of the word’s best commercial steam cleaners, featuring the extremely portable Hill Inox and super powerful Hill Injection dry vapor steam cleaners are remarkably efficient for grout cleaning. The Steam cleaner’s 5% humidity and temperatures of up to 192ºC exiting through the lance (steam jet) allow for an extraordinarily quick and efficient grout cleaning and tile restoration process. Grout and deep pored tile cleaning are nearly impossible with a mop or traditional floor scrubber, and this is where the Tecnovap commercial steam cleaners excel, instantly removing decades of dirt and grime, leaving you with a grout and tile that look as good as the day they were laid. Chemical free operation means that you never have to worry about damaging or discolouring the grout or tiles. For extremely dirty grout the simple addition of a rigid Nylon, or Brass detail brush can be implemented to expedite the cleaning process. The steam exits through a small powerful jet inside the brush allowing for the heat of the steam to open the pores of the grout and blow the dirt away, the heavy duty brushes help in the grout cleaning process by brushing away the loosened dirt. Save thousands of dollars by doing the work yourself instead an hiring an expensive cleaning company to come in and do the same work with subpar equipment, or better yet start your own grout and tile cleaning business!

The importance of clean floors

The floor tool that is comes included with all Pacific commercial steam cleaners is an essential tool for tile cleaning. This tool features the most durable and heavy duty bristles of any floor tool on the market with high quality clips for attaching your favorite microfiber cloth. The most efficient method for completely restoring a heavily dirtied tile floor with dirty grout is to pass the lance (steam jet) to clean the grout and afterwards pass the floor tool. The best way to pass the floor tool is with a cloth attached to the front two clips of the steam cleaning floor tool allowing for the bristles to still be exposed when the cloth is flipped up and also allowing for the cloth to soak up the dirty and excess water when flipped down. The other method is to pass with the bristles only and then attach the cloth to the floor tool and steam/mop the surface. This steam tile and grout cleaning process can be accomplished without the use of any chemicals, making this the only grout cleaning and tiling cleaning method that is 100% ecological.

Pacific’s Multiplo Tile and Grout Cleaning

The Multiplo series is the only equipment on the market today that can completely restore ceramics quickly and efficiently while cleaning low points performing the grout cleaning. Due to the powerful dual counter rotating brushes the Multiplo excels on all surfaces scrubbing and cleaning in half the time of any other product out there! Not only will it work on light and medium traffic areas but also the highest traffic paths removing the “permanent” coat of dingy dirt from the tile and cleaning the grout at the same time. The Multiplo can also be equipment with different brushes allowing for a more abrasive brush action for cement or heavy duty degreasing. There are also brushes for more delicate surfaces, allowing the full range of surfaces to be cleaned safely. The Multiplo is also designed to maintain previously cleaned grout, by collecting the dirt from the brushes into the central tank, the dirt is successfully removed completely from the floor and grout leaving grout cleaned much longer.
